At Costa Blanca Morris, we believe that folk tradition isn't a static snapshot of the past—it’s a living, breathing energy that grows with the people who dance it.
While our roots are firmly planted in the ancient English Morris tradition, our eyes are on the future. We don’t just "repeat" history; we contribute to it.
Music is the heartbeat of our side. While we honour the tunes played for centuries, we aren't afraid to bring a modern sensibility to our arrangements. By blending traditional folk instruments with contemporary energy, and being willing to innovate, we create a sound that feels as at home in a 21st-century Spanish plaza as it would have in a village centuries ago.
Tradition stays alive when it remains relevant. That’s why we take pride in writing our own dances. By choreographing new sets and movements, we ensure that our performances reflect the spirit of our current members and the vibrant community here in Spain.
We are a multicultural group that proves Morris dancing belongs to everyone. By stripping away the "museum" feel and focusing on the athleticism, the rhythm, and the social connection, we make the dance accessible to a new generation of dancers and musicians.
We aren't just keeping a tradition alive; we’re making sure it has a reason to stay.
Our side was started in 2007 when Ian Smith and Terri Horvath collaborated to introduce their Morris skills to Spain. The original side, Beaus and Belles, later became Terri Horvath Morris, in tribute to her, and in 2019 morphed into the present Costa Blanca Morris Dancers. To the best of our knowledge, we are the only Morris Dance side in the whole of Spain, but would love to be proved wrong!
